The dog this is being used on is a lab/pointer mix. He's under 80 lbs and really really (REALLY) enjoys the outdoors. The fit was good, getting it on and off is easy and he doesn't seem to mind at all wearing it.
Construction is light. We've used it twice on two 3 hour hikes. I usually load him down with a few liters of water and some dog treats. The fabric seems pretty tear resistant, however the zippers are lightweight. Do NOT overload the bags making it necessary to force the zippers. I'm a little concerned about the durability of the zippers.
On hike #1 the "D" ring which provides a means to attach a leash broke. It didn't really 'break' but rather separated enough to pull off of the nylon strap. I was able to knot the lead to make it work and I'm going to replace the D ring with something more robust.
For the price, I'd buy this again. This is our first one, so we'll see how much we use it and then consider this when we purchase the next one.

This is such a great doggy backpack. I take my Lab/Border collie on long runs with me and this backpack is perfect for my small water bottle, doggy poop bags, and GPS to keep track of our mileage. She looks forward to putting it on. As soon as I grab it, she sits in front of me and waits for it to be put on. My dog needed a job and this was the perfect one for her. If you have a working dog such as a lab, this will be great for them.

We got an adult rescue cockapoo with behavior issues. After reading some of Cesar Milan's (Dog Whisperer) books, and finding many of his ideas to reduce aggression helpful with our new guy, we wanted to try a backpack as he recommends. While he doesn't specifically recommend a backpack brand or have one of his own (as he does collars and leashes) the reviews on this one seemd pretty good. I have used it now a couple of weeks and am highly satisfied. For the price and for 'light use' (not heavy camping, carrying a lot of gear for miles use) on our urban walks, it is great. Our shy guy needed a bit of practice with it and I needed to cinch up the straps to fit and cut off the extreme excess and heat-treat the ends of the straps, then with a few final adjustments we were good to go. Most books say you can load up to 10-15% of most dog's weight and we are part way there with a balanced load of water in water bottles. With my dog, the pack fits well and doesn't shift. I wish the belly strap snapped on the side or top, but I could redo that if I took the time. The padded frame seems to spread the load and prevent irritation. If you want a pack to increase your dog's workout and aren't going to be fiddling a lot with carrying and loading/unloading a lot of specific gear, then this seems like the best pack for the price. No color choice, but we got a blue. Folks having a problem with balance on their dogs might consider sewing on some elastic loops for each back leg like our raincoat has, but you probably won't know about fit for sure until you get your pack and play a bit with it with your dog.

We got this about a week ago. Mooch and I are glad we did. She behaves much more civilized when she wears it, and now even when she doesn't. Mooch's only fault was straining at the leash to get to another dog. No aggression, just sniff and shrug when she could get there, but fearsome barking and dangerous pulling when she couldn't. With the backpack (loaded with two half-liter bottles of water) she barks but doesn't pull. Her walk is different too: she keeps her tail up and there's more of a spring in her step. It's as if she thinks "Look at me! I have a job!"
Quality control could be better. The chest strap had a twist and the leash ring was in the back. Since everything goes together with buckles, it wasn't hard to make right. Now that it's adjusted to Mooch's size, putting it on is literally a snap. I set it on her back, pull the chest strap over her head, and snap the belly strap in place. The straps seem big enough for a large mastiff. On Mooch, who weighs 60 pounds, they are much longer than needed. Safety pins, rubber bands, or scissors can deal with that.
One week later: The D-ring for leash attachment is not welded. The tape that secures it gets into the gap when it turns sideways, which it has a tendency to do. I replaced it with a keyring that is very satisfactory.

I just received the saddle bag a couple days ago, so far I am pleased with the item. After reading several reviews and seeing the price differences along with different sizing recommendations, I went with this bag. I was worried because my dog is large for his breed, however this bag fit him well, relatively quick adjustments, fitting took just a few minutes. I did not buy this for long hikes, however I have a very active dog, and needed to find a way to get him exercise without spending 2 hours out in the cold walking him. I have been putting weights in the the saddle bag and he is loving it. Now a 30 min walk is doing the same as a 1 and 1/2 hour run, great item.
