I have noticed in my trekking about that this style hat seems to appeal to the older man, (like myself) who don't really mind looking silly when they are out in the woods, if they have functional stuff. Mission accomplished. For rain, this hat is great, and keeps the rain out of your face and your head dry. Just recently in snowy Yosemite, I couldn't help but notice that my wife and her friend were smiling at me as though something was funny about the way I looked. They said "that hat is really a great snow catcher" . Sure enough, about four inches of snow had accumulated on my head thanks to the outfolded brim.
So for those of us who don't like to look really silly, perhaps this is not the snow hat for them. But for rain, it gives keeps you dry, and you can imagine in your mind that you have that cool ranger look going on for you. Just hold your head high and ignore all outside feedback!

I found this hat to be poorly made and rather ill fitting. Being rather misshapen, it barely resembles the photo. It has almost no weight or substance to it which might very well be considered to be a plus by some but in my experience you must keep the drawstring under your chin at all times if you don't want it to blow off of your head in the lightest of winds.

I love this hat--find myself looking forward to rain. I work in Portland, renowned for precipitation, and this hat performs as described. It is so lightweight that I can strap it tight to protect against wind and my thick wavy hair doesn't mold into "hat-head".The wide brim at the back keeps water from dripping down your neck,and the hat is attractive. You can also fold it to keep in your tote/bag/purse and it retains it's shape. Love it, glad I made this purchase.
