 "Severe Durability Issues" 2009-12-30
By Matthew Isaac Yungman
I received this pack as a gift. It looks good and feels sturdy. So, to break in the new pack, my friend and I set out on the Fox Swamp Trail in good ol SC. It was a 4-day trip and we were packed pretty heavy, but what I felt well within that of a 'hiking' pack. The first thing to snap was the upper straps that controlled how close the top of the pack sits to your back. One side broke, but was repaired with a knot. Then the second one broke no more than an hour later. While walking, the waist and height straps continued to go loose and needed constant readjustments. The padding was more of a hassle than a comfort. By the end of the day, I'd lost one of the large clip on that held the top lid close, the waist band, and a zipper.

This pack would only be good for an overnight trip and even then, do not pack heavy. Products that are more expensive, will generally be more durable. All in all, at the end of day 2, my trip was canceled, we hitched a ride back to our car and nursed a damaged pride.

If you're looking for an alright pack set up and such, I'd spend the extra 30 bucks and buy a good strong Alice Pack and a frame for it. It should be enough to back pack in for at least 3 days.

 "A very bad backpack" 2009-03-25
By Michael E. Carson (Billings,Montana USA)
This backpack fell apart the first time out on a 5day hike, and the pack was about as comfortable as carrying a cinder block on your back. It would make a great daypack oh that wont work the pack is to large. Do not waste your money like I did.

"Good deal, not particularly rugged" 2008-06-26
By Knud A. Hermansen
This backpack was a fantastic bargain and so I took a gamble. I took it on a two-week trip through Europe.

The backpack has good room and an interesting layout. I like the zippers on the side that give you access to main compartment. The elastic cords on the pack let you easily put a sweater or raingear securely on the outside. The padding on the straps is comfortable. I had trouble getting waistband tight enough (I have a 32" waist) and it would loosen up over the course of a short walk. The top flap that covered the main compartment was a good design and could fit over a very full main compartment. The three straps allows you to secure the top and cinch you load very tight.

My chief issues with this backpack are its durability. The first thing I broke was one of the zippers on the side pouches. I did have the thing packed pretty tight but I'd only been using it for three days at that point - a little early for failure, in my opinion.

The next thing to fail was the strap that holds the top of the shoulder straps. The design here is very poor. It is too little stitching to hold the amount of weight that you can pack in this backpack. I did not do any trail hiking which would have been even more rugged I simply used it to get my gear between hotels and train and bus stations. I broke it picked up backpack - and not with a quick sharp hoist either.

I would recommend this backpack for a luggage holder for clothes, but not for hiking.
