"Great Adventure System Pack - Ultra Runner's Delight" 2010-09-21
By tonzo
I spent about a month testing out this pack and the most obvious thing I noticed was the no bounce fit. The true test came this last weekend when I took the Synergy out on the BD50K in the Issaquah Alps. The first leg was 16.5mi and the dual reservoir provided me the hydration I needed when I wanted it with water and energy drink in combination of my choosing. The pack had enough room in the stow pocket on the outside for my gloves and jacket. I carried a few "just in case" essentials in the main compartment, like cell phone, extra socks, and a foot repair kit and still had tons of room left over. The front mesh pockets provided plenty of space for gels and a zippered stow for other essentials.

I went with the Synergy to have the opportunity to carry extra gear and fuel for longer training runs and the potential overnight excursion. Although I wouldn't be packing a sleeping bag in it, Synergy would definitely carry enough to meet my needs and wears light and tight enough for a organized Ultra.

"Good Idea, But Not Well Executed" 2010-07-30
By R. W. Taylor (Woodland Park CO USA)
I do a lot of hiking in Colorado. I chiefly use this Synergy Bladder for climbing 14ers.

1. Not sure I trust it. The tubes on the bottom of each of the two bladders are push on only. I am constantly worried that one or the other is going to come off.

2. The bite valve has a screw on bushing to keep the drinking tube on the bite valve. It broke on first use. I called Nathan. They are sending me a new bladder because they do not stock this 25 cent part.

3. It's tricky to fill. If you over fill the water part, you can't fit anything in the hydration drink part ... and vice versa.

4. It's very hard to clean and dry. You simply cannot remove all the liquid from either chamber to ensure the units are dry. I have tried everything. I basically leave it full of bleach water until I need it the next time.

5. The Hydration drink portion has a fold twice and Velcro closure system. It seems to seal well, but it is VERY hard to grip the tabs to open it.

6. The little cross flow valve thingy is very hard to turn. You really need to set it up before you put your pack on.

7. The little cross flow valve thingy does not feed well through the holes my pack provides for bladder tubes. It's too large.

8. Finally you really have to work to suck liquid out of this thing. Bite and suck. I find myself not getting enough liquid unless I nearly continuously work it. My first time EVER dehydrated on a hike was with this Synergy system.

9. It needs some sort of hook so you can hang it while filling and while trying to empty it and dry it out.

10. Good idea, but it might be simpler to carry two separate 1.5 liter bladders.

 "Terrible and Ridiculous" 2010-07-15
By Daniel J. Knight (Albuquerque, NM)
Whose stupid idea was this?:

1) Starts to tastes strongly of plastic within two days.

2) The fluid dial is very hard to turn, so if you have problems with your finger joints or your fingers are in pain somehow you're not going to have an easy time with this unless the pain is somewhere other than the parts of your fingers where you'll be putting pressure on.

The way the thing works is also nonsensical seeming: you put water in the all water section and strangely it fills in the energy drink tube, HUH? Why aren't they separate?

3) The water section has a water cap, but the energy drink section has a stupid hard to pull apart VELCRO ROLL OPENING, and why in the world is it rolled up? I'm guessing to keep the debri the velcro will accumulate over time from easily falling into the drink section, but why the Hell is it velcro in the first place? Not as if energy packets are massive and can't be poured into a cap and not like you need to dump a canister in and can't use a spoon. Whoever gave this thing positive reviews must have done so within a few hours after having gotten this thing and pain-lovers. I should have gotten a camelback.

The positive thing, and I don't know if any other hydropacks have this, is that the bite valve section can be turned, so that it's not putting so that you can position it in a neutral position in your mouth, rather than having a tugging feeling on your teeth from an awkward angle.

 "Nathan Synergy Pack" 2010-06-12
By K. Kasin (Redlands, CA)
I am a long distance runner and have been looking for a pack that can carry both water and sports drink as well as snacks and a light jacket. This pack was suggested by a friend and has been just perfect. The dual bladder and mixing valve allows me to carry two liters of water and on liter of highly concentrated sports drink. If I need a quick blast, I can go for a straight shot of sport drink or I can use the mix valve to thin it out.

This pack fits very well and stays stable on my back even on some of the most technical trails. I would highly reccomend this product!

"Black/Calypso Blue Summer 69 pack, not quite as pictured" 2009-12-14
By Julie T (San Francisco, CA)
I bought the Black/Calypso Blue Summer 69 pack, and it's not quite as pictured here. Mine has the same colors, but they are much brighter. And it looks like it has more peace signs, which make it appear more like circles and lines, than the actual peace sign. I'm returning it, since it's not quite as "cool" looking as I had hoped.

"Waist Pack is a Good Value." 2009-09-14
By Jim Slosson (Olympia, Washington)
This product meets the needs of the customer (me) at a price I am willing to pay--that is the definition of high quality. The construction is more than adequate. It is comfortable to wear. I fell in a lake with my camera and phone inside--they both survived--that is more than the manufacturer promised.

 "Jansport waist pack awesome!" 2009-09-12
By JGH (Miami, Fl.)
I purchased this waist pack for my daily long walks... I just love it! It is not too big or small, just right. It fits comfortably with the adjustible waist band and has a seperate compartment for a cell phone or small wallet. Jansport is known for its quality products, I must say this one fits the bill.

 "Excelent product" 2009-09-04
By J. Biehl (west palm beach,FL)
Jansport has always made great products. I had a back pack pack that lasted over 20 years. The only thing that failed was the zipper. I had a tailor sew in a new one and it was good to go. I like the the 2 pocket design of the waist pack. The clasp has a little bit more to be desired, but it works OK.
