This is a great pack for a lot of reasons, large and small. I bought it for its versatility, and for the fact that it is big enough to carry quite a bit of gear, but not so big that I could get carried away and end up packing the kitchen sink. What impressed me most though is all the little details. I've had a number of hydration packs over the last decade, and the Transformer was the first to offer a number of features, such as:
*A bite valve cover so I don't end up w/ a mouth full of dirt (or who knows what else) after setting it down.
*The additional valve on the hose so that if you accidentally set the pack down on the bite valve you don't end up w/ a wet pack and an empty reservoir.
*An insulated hose so that you don't get a mouth full of tepid water when using it outdoors in hot weather
*Quick releases so that the bite valve (HydroLinkTM Modular Connection System with positive shut-off HydroLockTM) can be easily switched out for a water pump converter new valve, or so the entire hose can be replaced if damaged or dirty.
*A hanging system for the reservoir so that it doesn't get bunched up in the bottom of the pack as it empties (other models I used to blow air into the reservoir to allow water trapped near the top to reach the hose
*A rigid handle around the reservoir opening that allows you to fill it completely and then screw on the cap w/o spilling water all over the place.
*A wide reservoir opening that allows you to add ice to keep your drinking water cold.
*Elastic pouches for the waist belts so that they can be kept out of the way when not in use
*A Velcro "Strap Management" system that allows you to shorten the compression straps on the shoulder straps so that they aren't dangling in your way or becoming too loose.
*A pull out rain cover which.
Other great features present on the Transformer are the compression straps that both keep the load in place and allow you to easily strap additional gear to the pack, and the fact that most of the components are removable and therefore replaceable. Also, while I have not yet used the integrated MOLLE attachment system, it's nice to know that it's there.
As for Cons, there are few:
*While jogging w/ the pack on, one of the waist straps had a tendency to come free, but that was easily remedied by doubling it back through the buckle, and I haven't had any problems since.
*The rain cover could be designed a little better. I wish it attached around or to the shoulder straps instead of having a single strap that clips in the middle.
*The fasteners on the removable compartments sometimes come loose. While I've never had more than one come loose at a time, and have therefore never been in any danger of losing them, it would be nice if they used quick release snaps like the compression straps, or perhaps zippers.
All in all, of all the packs I've owned over the years, this is by for my favorite. It fits everything I need, and very little that I don't.

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail other than to say that this bag is everything you'd expect from a Camelbak Military grade hydro pack. The size and convertible design isn't for everyone, but I like options and light weight. Remember, it only has 952 cubic inches of cargo room. If that's all you need, then this pack is what you need.

This product is terrific. I am a college student and this bag also works for my needs. This works great to fit one large text book and two 8x11 inch note pads. It also stores a recorder, PsP, and headphones. I will also use it for intense day hikes in the PA wilds. This is one all around Badass bag!

This backpack is very well made. Very. You could fight a bear with it. It is also very comfortable to wear, but I haven't worn it for extended distances yet.
The only cons I have are:
- I thought it would be larger. I go to school part time and thought I would use this as a book bag as well as a daypack, but I can only fit one or two (small) textbooks in it. This is definitely not a weekend or bugout bag.
- When broken down to the base pack containing the reservoir, there is only one small pocket. So, if I am biking or running, items much larger than a wallet or phone can not be carried without putting them in the compartment with the reservoir. Since I don't want to damage the bladder, I choose not to do this.
If you want a CamelBak for exercise or hiking, though, this one may be for you. If you want to use it for school as well, go a little larger. It is perfect for afternoon hikes, trail running, or biking.
