The knife shown in the image is not the one that you will get if you order this item. Victorinox has made what they call a "running change". They have replaced the 8x magnifying lens surrounded with gray plastic by a 5x lens surrounded by clear plastic. Not only is this new lens flimsier and more likely to break off, but also it will be harder to start a fire with it in an emergency survival situation. Definitely this change is a change for the worse. I don't why Victorinox made this change except to save a few bucks in manufacturing the knife? Luckily, I called Victorinox customer support and they are aware of this problem and said that they will gladly switch out the clear plastic-surrounded lens with a gray-plastic surrounded lens if I send the knife to their Repairs department.

I have had carried Explorers since 85. It is one of the few Swiss knifes that have a phillips from the end instead of from the middle. Its weight and combination of tools is perfect! I have Leathermen (too heavy), smaller Swiss knifes (too limited), and other pocket size tool collections (too flimsy), but the Explorer does it all and does not pull too heavy in your pockets. The magnifying lens seems like wasted space until you need it again and again and again. The large screwdriver/opener, has a wire bending notch that is more useful than you know. My first one had the blade broken by a customer who needed to borrow it for a second (never loaned it again). The second one had the case cracked when I was in a wreck (never wreck again).

I never, ever, leave home without it.

For general urban survival, and if you spend most of your time in an office environment, the unconspicuous Rally is all you need. The Phillips mini driver is a welcome addition, it's a pity it can't be found on larger models.

I bought this because I like the format and wanted the screwdriver blade instead of scissors. I wasn't disappointed in what I got. It have everything I would commonly need in a compact package.



The screwdriver blade is nice and beefy, taking up the whole space in width and seems pretty sturdy. I don't use it for big projects, but small everyday screwdrivering, like laptops, toys, etc. Works nice.



The rest of it is like a standard Swiss Army Knife classic, and that's very good.

The Rally is a great keychain tool. This differs from the classic by substituting a combo tool in place of the scissors. I always thought the scissors on the smallest SAK's were not that useful, so the all-important bottle opener is much more useful to me. The pioneer offers the most useful tools in a compact, sturdy package that is great for EDC. If it had the tweezers and toothpick too, I would say that it was perfect. As it is, I just carry this in my pocket and keep a 58mm SAK on my keychain, which has the tweezers and toothpick. The awl on this tool is far superior to the awl on the SAK's with plastic handles. For the money this tool is very tough to beat.

The aluminum handles look good even with wear, and there's nothing on the knife to fall apart (unlike the red plastic SA knives). The high-polish stainless steel blade is easy to sharpen to a shaving edge, although it does require more frequent re-sharpening than a Buck knife for example. The design is clean and sleek and it fits nicely in a front pocket.

The Victorinox Pioneer is one of my favorite pocket knives for the money. The blade on the Pioneer is thicker than the large blade on the red cellidor model. The awl is sharp and makes a nice clean hole. The alox handles on this knife are solid and durable. This knife is easy to clean and maintain because of the solid scales. Through moderate use, I have yet to have to sharpen the blade. Backsprings are heavy duty making the snap on these knives is really good.

I have no idea where I got this knife from, but all I know is that it was NIB and had a really sharp edge. The knife is an OK size, and is not really that big. It has everything that a good knife needs, an perhaps a bit more. The bottle opener and can opener have their uses, but the corkscrew isn't very important to me. Anytime I have a bottle that needs to be uncorked, I usually have a corkscrew. The light isn't that great, but I suppose it could be useful. Overall a very good knife.

Had this one for about a week now. It's just a hair on the bulky side for me but worth it for all the functions. I work in a hospital & wanted a knife with a light & a few basic screwdrivers. The phillips is a bit smaller than a standard #2 but works perfect. Also the phillips & flathead/bottle opener both stop at 90 degrees as well as all the way open(nice feature). Carry mine in the lower leg pocket on my cargo pants, don't care for it in my front pockets. Why don't all of them come with the little screw driver in the corkscrew? Overall I'm happy with this one. The light is about as bright as my cel phone in the dark.

I've owned a swiss army knife for as long as I can remember. I carry in on my key ring. I wanted to het a knife with an LED to save me having a seperate light in my pocket. Although a little larger than my previous knife, it has all the same features but with the extra LED and cork-screw. I can live with the extra size. It still fits nicely in my pocket. You can get a smaller LED knife with just a scissors, but what's the point? You might as well go for a knife with at least a few basic necessary features i.e. large and small blade, screw driver (flat & phillips), can opener, cork screw, mini screw driver.

I will give this 4 stars because I would prefer the same features on a smaller knife, otherwise I would give it 5 stars. Except no substitute - build quality is the best!!!!

The main blade is extra long and holds an edge really well. The saw is also extra long and makes quick work of branches or the rigging for a dead fall. The gut hook is the perfect size for rabbits and squirrels, but not big enough for larger game. The main blade lock takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it almost becomes a preference for a lock blade. I thought that I lost the first knife that I bought, and quickly ordered a new one. I have since found it, and am happy keeping one with my gear and one as my normal carry.
