There are some qualities of this backpack that make it immediately undesirable and I wouldn't have bought it if I saw it in a store.

1- The back is not stiff enough to hold the shape if there are oddly shaped things in the back pack. Now I don't expect to not feel that there is something round in the bag if I have a basketball in there, but I do expect the stiffness of the back to withstand a pair of tennis shoes for example.

2- The zippers are not very good quality. They catch on themselves and I am waiting for the day when they completely break (which I wouldn't be too mad about because then I could justify getting a new backpack).

3- If you have things in the two big compartments, then the front vertical zipper pocket is really weird to use because things fall to the bottom and are squished to the front of the pack. It doesn't work well.

4- The waist belt is pretty much useless- it is there just to have more high speed straps. It doesn't help with lumbar support.

 "Multi-purpose backpack" 2009-10-03
By K. Fallows (Orlando, FL)
This backpack is perfect. It can be used to tote around school/business things or to go hiking in the woods. There are so many pockets and areas in this backpack that you can't help but know where to find something. The sunglasses pocket on the top and the water bottle pockets on either side might be my favorites. This backpack is also extremely comfortable with well-padded shoulder straps and a waist belt if you need to secure the pack firmly to your back for balance. Also, don't forget the amazing Jansport lifetime guarantee - I've used it before and its great. If it gets a tear, if the zipper breaks, if it becomes discolored, whatever - Jansport will replace the backpack.

 "Grea Buy" 2009-09-05
By Kyla P.
Before I bought this Jansport backpack, I bought a Timbuk2 Messenger bag, big mistake. The Jansport bag is not huge, but it is pretty big. It can fit my laptop, a 5 subject notebook, a 3 subject notebook, 3 folders, index cards, my drink bottle, keys, ipod, phone, and my laptop charger, with a lot of room to spare. Even more awesome, is the fact that while holding all these things, the bag never looks too big, or chunky, like most bags do when they get full. The bag comes with a little pocket to place your laptop in, although i would put a sleeve on the laptop before placing it in the pocket, since the pocket itself is not padded. The outside of the backpack itself is very padded, including the shoulder straps which removes the weight of all those items in the bag from off your shoulders. It also comes with a strap for your waist, just in case your in a hurry and don't need your things jiggling about on your back, and it also comes with a strap over your chest area. I think this is a quality back pack and it is not over expensive like those North Face was I was also considering buying. Some of the North Face shoulder's straps and waist straps are laughable compared to this Backpack, especially at the price they want you to buy them for.

In Summary: Best bag you'll ever find for your money.
