Good size for my tall 4-year old. Was looking for a pack that my daughter would love, but in a unisex color to hand down to my son in a couple years, and be large enough for preschool use. Thought the "green apple gecko" was trimmed in purple, as it appears in the photo, but the bottom and netting on the pack is actually grey. Still cute, but a little disappointed that it didn't have purple on it (my daughter's fav color). My daughter used it on several hikes this summer and LOVED every minute of it. She carried her favorite stuffed animal and some treats in the pack (with lots of extra room)and was constantly drinking from the hydration pack. :) She was excited to have her own pack, and Mom & Dad were excited we didn't have to stop every hundred ft to let her sip out of our Camelbaks. Seems to be a great size for preschool too...will be tested in a couple weeks.

I did a lot of reading and researching back packs on the internet trying to find a decent capacity pack that my 4 yr old boys would be able to carry. THIS IS THE BAG! It is hard to find a good quality pack for small children in a store. It is even harder to know if the bag I'm looking at on the internet is large enough to carry a decent amount of gear but small enough that a child can carry it. These packs are working great for us. They have chest and waist straps so you can strap them on your toddler and they won't constantly be "losing" the bag off their shoulders. They can hold water bladders but the Amazon order did not come with the bladders. Not sure why but didn't actually need them so I didn't complain. We used the packs for a very long plane ride to Korea so we needed them to hold all the essentials for a long trip. They are not huge packs. Like I said, they are perfect for a 4 yr old to carry on their own. I could go on and on but I'd be babbling so I hope this helps. My boys carry them all over as we walk a lot in Korea. :) (note: the orange bag has flowers on it) I added photos so you can have a better idea of the size on a child.

My son and daughter love their packs. Just big enough to carry some essentials. Kids will bite through the bite valve, but you can replace them with Nalgene replacement sheaths (part #2353-0012) 2/$4.00. Not a bad deal.
