We stayed dry. It rained torrentially for 11 days straight- and not a drop of water got inside the tent. Amazing! On dewy mornings, there was quite a bit of condensation on the bottom walls, but the air circulation through the mesh roof is excellent and the condensation lasts only an hour or so once the sun's up. We left our boots in the vestibule every night, and they were always dry in the morning, even after a gale.



The tent holds up well in strong winds. It was difficult to sleep through gales, though, because the vestibule does flap in very strong winds.



Malaria is a problem in the area we camped in, so I was concerned about the netting and whether mosquitoes could bite through the light fabric. I need not have worried. We used the vestibule as an `air lock'. Not one creepy crawly or mosquito got inside the tent over the course of a month.



I wouldn't call this a four-person tent. It's perfect for an adult and two small kids- I could fit my backpacker's cot, two air mattresses for the kids, and a month's worth of gear inside. You could fit four sleeping bags inside, head to tail like sardines, with no gear, but that's no way to live.



The tent's very easy to set up and take down; it takes 5-10 minutes for an adult, or 10-15 minutes with a ten year old helping you. I like the fly buckles on each corner of the tent, but wish Kelty had included an extra plastic buckle. We lost one the first time we set up the tent, and now have to knot the strap to hold the fly down.



The tent's very light, too- great for backpacking.



It's the best 3-season tent I've ever owned.

I got this tent as a gift, and had never set up a tent before or been camping really at all. So I thought I would have all kinds of trouble seting this up by myself. I gave it a test run in our back yard and it is sooo easy to set up. Which is a huge plus!! It seems to be great quality and very light. If it isnt rainy you can take the rain fly off and half the tent is see through mesh (for this reason there are no windows) so you can literaly sleep under the stars without the bugs bothering you. I am so excited to go on my first camping excursion so I can use this tent!!

Good size for my tall 4-year old. Was looking for a pack that my daughter would love, but in a unisex color to hand down to my son in a couple years, and be large enough for preschool use. Thought the "green apple gecko" was trimmed in purple, as it appears in the photo, but the bottom and netting on the pack is actually grey. Still cute, but a little disappointed that it didn't have purple on it (my daughter's fav color). My daughter used it on several hikes this summer and LOVED every minute of it. She carried her favorite stuffed animal and some treats in the pack (with lots of extra room)and was constantly drinking from the hydration pack. :) She was excited to have her own pack, and Mom & Dad were excited we didn't have to stop every hundred ft to let her sip out of our Camelbaks. Seems to be a great size for preschool too...will be tested in a couple weeks.

I did a lot of reading and researching back packs on the internet trying to find a decent capacity pack that my 4 yr old boys would be able to carry. THIS IS THE BAG! It is hard to find a good quality pack for small children in a store. It is even harder to know if the bag I'm looking at on the internet is large enough to carry a decent amount of gear but small enough that a child can carry it. These packs are working great for us. They have chest and waist straps so you can strap them on your toddler and they won't constantly be "losing" the bag off their shoulders. They can hold water bladders but the Amazon order did not come with the bladders. Not sure why but didn't actually need them so I didn't complain. We used the packs for a very long plane ride to Korea so we needed them to hold all the essentials for a long trip. They are not huge packs. Like I said, they are perfect for a 4 yr old to carry on their own. I could go on and on but I'd be babbling so I hope this helps. My boys carry them all over as we walk a lot in Korea. :) (note: the orange bag has flowers on it) I added photos so you can have a better idea of the size on a child.

This bag is great. The only reasons it got a star knocked off were- I would like some more of the internal pockets to be zippered, and it could be a smidge bigger (for the 1500).



Pros are: it's insanely light. Turns out this makes a big difference. I had a north face surge, which was a cool pack, but the dog chewed it up. I really didn't feel like spending another $100 on it, so I bought the Riff. I like it more than the super expensive north face. It's more practical and MUCH lighter. I can't believe what a difference it makes. It's awesome.



Definitely recommend this for a student or as a carry on bag. The laptop sleeve is nice and secure, and the pack holds all of my books for law school- they're HUGE, too.



Can't go wrong- great pack.

 "Nice pack for the price, but taller buyers beware" 2010-03-30

Bought this pack looking for a cheap pack that could do double-duty, handling long day hikes and light weekenders. While it's a nice pack for the price, the adjustability is lacking.



The included instructions (also available on Kelty's website) state that the hip belt buckle should be over your belly button. I find this uncomfortable because the waist belt then pinches the skin above my hip bones. The instructions also claim it has an adjustable hip belt. The hip belt is indeed attached to the pack with Velcro, however the material on the back panel of the bag wraps over the hip belt restricting its up & down adjustability to about 1.5 inches--and you have to fight hard for those 1.5 inches. I'm 6'1", and the bag is simply not long enough for me.



Even if I could get used to the belt height, I couldn't get the aluminum stay that runs along the spine to be comfortable. No matter how much I bent it, it always contacted the middle of my upper back, something that I could tell would be painful even before trying a hike with it.



All that said, I think the problem is simply one of fit on taller people. My 5'4' female hiking partner tried it on, and after about 30 minutes of adjustment (probably undoing everything I had done previously) she has fallen in love with it.



Her only complaint--the mesh water bottle pockets are a bit meager. Standard 1L Nalgene bottles easily slip out. (She has to slip the side compression straps over them to hold them in.)

I love this back pack so much I bought one for my brother-in-law's puppy. I have a 60 pound labrador puppy and Cesar Milan recommends giving working dogs a "job". At first my dog did not like having it on her back, but once we get off on the trail, she forgets about it. She does walk well (no pulling) when she is wearing it. I load it evenly on each side with small frozen water bottles, and as they melt - I use them to give her water. Two things to be aware of - the belly strap will work its way loose on a long hike and will need to be readjusted. I am thinking of adding a snap to keep it tight, but am waiting until my puppy stops growing. The two side bags must be weighted equally so the pack does not pull to one side.

This product looks nice, and is a well known brand, but the "click here sizing chart" is for people, not dogs ! Without (canine) sizing information, it is hard to know what to order, especially for a mid-sized dog, who might fall into either the large or the small category. I hope someone will fix this silly listing error.

I got this backpack for my 4 year old when she started preschool mainly to avoid the character covered, cheap backpacks you usually find. It is the perfect size and made it through an entire year of preschool with barely any wear. The zippers and fabric are very durable and it's the perfect size to fit folders, papers, and a lunch bag. We will use this backpack until it's too small for her, since I can tell it won't wear out any time soon. I'll be ordering another one for my three year old soon. Kelty is known for producing quality, lightweight products but this backpack is truly amazing. It's incredibly light, is excellently designed for maximal space and comfort. I took this pack on a backpacking trip to Greece and the only time the backpack became sweaty was hiking up Delphi ruins in nearly 95 degree weather. It is sleek, fits well on my small frame, and even the silver color which I was worried about being either too drab or too flashy is aesthetically pleasing. I have no complaints about this top notch product.
