Weighing in at a mere 3 lbs. 11 oz., the German-engineered Deuter ACT Lite 65+10 provides storage capacity, comfort and stability for backcountry adventure. Despite its lightweight design, the ACT Lite 65+10 can haul up to 50 pounds! Designed to offer versatility for activities ranging from weekend hiking to lightweight, extended backpacking, the ACT Lite 65+10 has a standard capacity of 3950 cubic inches, increasing to 4550 cubic inches with the use of an integrated, extendible spindrift collar. Built on the concept that it's easier to carry heavy loads when the backpack and wearer form a single entity, Deuter's Aircontact Lite System relies on the compression and expansion of hydro and thermo-phobic Aircontact foam to provide ventilation and load-carrying comfort. A continuous air channel along the spine of the ACT Lite 65+10 allows warm air to escape and permits cool air to funnel between your back and the body of the pack. Soft, breathable fabrics and ventilated pads in the back, shoulder straps and hipbelt further help to keep you cool and comfortable on the trail. An anatomically-profiled X-frame system in the ACT Lite 65+10 offers a balance of rigidity and flexibility, effectively distributing weight. Further enhancing fit, Deuter's Vari-Quick harness system adjusts easily to accommodate varying torso lengths. A strongly-woven strap "ladder" in the back of the pack allows you to select the desired position for optimal comfort and load distribution. Side compression straps enable you to reduce and expand the size of the pack body as needed, further securing contents and ensuring stabilization of the load. A zippered divider between the ACT Lite 65+10's top loading main compartment and front entry sleeping bag compartment allows for organization and separation of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unzip the divider and convert the ACT Lite 65+10 to a single, large compartment. Internal and

 "excellently built pack" 2010-09-14
By Cathos Moore (Lakewood, CO USA)
This pack is extremely well made. I'm impressed with the construction and the warranty that backs it. As this is an extremely lightweight pack, I was surprised at how comfortable it feels and how well the weight distributes against the hipbelt.

"well engineered and thought out" 2010-09-06
By pattygoodguy
This pack is excellent.

I tried on many packs before choosing this style and i chose it based on comfort. With the pack loaded with a sleeping bag on the bottom it stands upright well. The side pockets for water bottles work excellent, it just took me a few tries to learn how to slide my finger in to guide the bottle. The air suspension really makes a huge difference and only the shoulder strap areas, lower back and waist areas were soaked with sweat instead of the entire back.

Overall if you use each compartment and strap how it was engineered you will be amazed as i am with the thought that went in to the design.

=)

 "Atoms 65 Pack" 2010-06-04
By jlawler (Maine)
I bought his pack at L.L. Bean (lifetime warranty guaranteed) and it looks great and fits really comfortably. The lack on sub-compartments in the backpack (dividers in the main compartment) is the only major drawback. FROM EXPERIENCE I CAN TELL YOU NOT CHEAP OUT ON THIS PIECE OF GEAR!!! (Your back and shoulders will pay the price big time.) This backpack is an investment, and in my opinion, a great investment for casual and serious hiker alike.

"Squirels ate my 20yo external pack" 2010-04-14
By mydogsnameisgunsmoke (So California)
So I set out to buy another external. Boy was I out of touch. Many many years ago, I rented an internal before purchasing my external, and thought no way. Well the world of backpacking wasn't waiting around for me. This internal pack brings together the best of both worlds.

1st is getting fabric off my back so I can stop sweating. This pack is out in the forefront with its ventilated system. Not only does it keep me fresh it's more comfortable with more weight equilizing contact (w.o. the sweat).

2nd there is plenty of small storage compartments for your snacks and tools that should be easily accessible.

3rd and finally this pack is well built. I inspected this very closely and was surprised at the quality of the material and how well it was put together. My 6'3" body is in perfect sync with this fine pack.

One last comment. Purchase at REI, same price as Amazon, less 20%. My total cost $208. :)

I took this to the Philippines with me and all in all, no complaints. What I really notice was the lack of sweat on my back. The mesh netting made all the difference in keeping me nice and cool. After 2 weeks, and going thru airport "check-in luggage", the pack came thru it all without a scratch or a tear. I found my gear easy to find with all the extra pockets isolating the different items. My Australian Squashy hat never interfered with the pack.

 "Comfortable but wet" 2010-01-31
By Luciano Aimar (Boston, USA)
The look is very cool. It fits very well on the shoulders. Very light. but...

1. Very bad resistance to water, as soon as it rains everything inside gets wet.

2. It does not have enough pockets. The big front one is very nice but totally useless because too big and totally open. The two on the side are not real pockets but just big straps, where one can carry a water bottle.

3. The way is constructed once it is on the floor it doesn't hold itself up, and this is a big inconvenience when you want to put it down and the ground is wet or muddy.

Overall ... I wish I had not bought it.

"Great value for the price !" 2009-10-27
By The Vedicz (Redmond, WA, US)
I purchased this about 5 months back and did a 25 day Europe trip with this. I have to say I am very satsfied with this backpack specially for the price that I paid for it. Its very heavy duty (I was carrying almost 16 - 18Kg). From my past experience with a variety of other backpacks, I see a lot of strengths in this one, for example:pockets and straps at convinient locations, easy to carry camping equipment, a very strong back support, light weight etc. Yes, just like others have mentioned, its important that your waist size if not less than 31-32. I was 31.5 when I started the trip and eventually lost weight in the trip, so the waist belt sat a little loose toward the end of my trip. Overall, I would strongly recommend this for anyone who wants a light yet high-performing backpack for multi-purpose use.

"Great bag at a great price." 2009-10-19
By Tony (Mesa Az.)
This is a very good quality pack that is very comfortable on the trail. The adjustable shoulder harness is a bit loose as all adjustable packs are. It is not a light bag if you are counting ounces this may not be the bag for you. The staps come very long and need to be trimmed. the sleeping bag compartment is a little small for some med to lg sized bags but is sufficient and there is a divider that can be unzipped for one large compartment or to access items on the bottom of the pack without unpacking. But overall very good materials and manufacture make this bag the perfect heavy-duty pack for weekends or several days in the back country.

I don't know much about camping and hiking gear and recently bought this product because it looked good and the description sounded fine. my roommate has a fair idea of how these things should be and he told me that it was a good bag for the price. Ive used it only once and it looks like nice and sturdy...

 "High Sierra Pack" 2009-09-09
By Ryan Lanigan
I bought this bag just before leaving on an 8 day hike through the last 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail and it held its own just fine. The bag isn't great for being waterproof. We got a TON of rain throughout our hike and had to cross numerous rivers, and while some of my clothes got wet it is basically impossible to expect any bag to hold out the degree of water we experienced. Overall I had just the right amount of room for all our food and a couple pairs of clothes. I probably could have used a little more room but seeing as fully packed I was already carrying about 45 lbs I think it was the right size for a longer hike.

Overall I was very pleased with the pack. It had plenty of storage and more than enough clips to hang miscellaneous items from; however, consider bringing dry bags if you are expecting a lot of rain...

"Excellent pack for the money" 2009-09-06
By B. Lowry
I was in need of a general purpose backpack. Not too large, not too small, and one that I would only use a few times a year. I read the reviews on various backpacks sold at Amazon.com, REI, and other sporting goods retailers. Since I wasn't going to use it that much, I couldn't bring myself to spend $100-$300. The feedback on this pack was that it was a solid pack for the money.

Took it camping this past weekend and I have to say that I don't think that you can find a better pack for the money ($88 through Amazon.com). Some of my fellow campers could not believe how nice of a bag it was, and were even more surprised when I told them what I paid for it. The pack is very well built. At 65 liters, it is big enough for a few days worth of backpacking. It is a top-loading drawstring design, with two smaller external compartments. The shoulder straps fit very nice and it was comfortable to use, even fully loaded. There are straps on the top, sides, and bottom to compress the pack once it is loaded.

I would definitely not recommend this for anyone with a 36" or smaller waist due to the size of the waist straps. I have a 38" waist and had the waist straps cinched up almost all the way. It is not the lightest backpack, but since I'm not climbing K-2 anytime soon, it works fine for my needs.

I would have liked the Chipotle color, but not enough to spend an extra $20-$30.
