It was a gift for my sister.

She still carries it and loves it.

Not too big and too small.

 "Great for walking everywhere!" 2010-04-24
By M. Yang (Boston, MA)
I wanted a waterproof, cute, hands-free bag for carrying my camera and travel docs around on spring break. There's enough space for a Sony DSC-HX1, a pashmina wrap, a paperback book, a passport wallet, a regular wallet, various rail passes and plane tickets, sunblock, and extra batteries. That's not including items in the two front pockets. I also carried a small umbrella under the flap (over the external pockets that is secured by velcro) and kept it from falling off by attaching a climbing clip to both the bag's strap and the elastic loop on the umbrella handle. Loved having the security of zippers for the main compartments.

Do wish it were just one and a half inch wider, to fit my 10.3'' netbook. But it does fit an extra pair of flip flops or flats.

"Great Bag for Running around." 2009-10-10
By K. Nas (Mesa, AZ USA)
I bought this bag because I hate carrying things in my pocket and between my wife and 1 yr old my hands were always full. This bag is perfect for most day to day stuff. I carry around 2 wallets usually 2 to 3 phones a small toy a few diapers and wipes bunch of other baby stuff and this bag handles it like a champ. You could carry around a netbook pretty easily in this bag but nothing larger then 10" or so. My one really big con with this bag is the strap length, I'm a bigger guy 6'3 275lb's and it is on the verge of being too short for me. The bag is perfect in every other way so I got used to the strap size. I have so far really enjoyed having the bag and plan on using it for a long time.

"Works great. Don't use it as much as I expected." 2010-04-23
By Nine-Mile (San Antonio, Texas)
This carrier works great, though we don't use it as much as we expected. I had hoped that it would fit but my husband and I, but it does not expeand large enough for him. They mirror is great and gets quite a bit of use when we do take our daughter out in the carrier. I wouldn't buy a carrier without one.

"Highly recommended for light to medium hikes or city walks" 2010-01-31
By CY (Hong Kong)
My wife and I are hiking enthusiasts and we've bought this item after reviewing a lot of similar products in the web. We have not a single moment disappointed. In fact, we have been asked multiple times where we can find this bag that can contain our son so happily!

Pros:

My son has been travelling in it since he can sit up at 3 months. We have been to hiking, groceries, city walks and even short bike rides (although strongly discouraged by Kelty). The adjustment with the torso and child seat is a must if you are really serious about using a child carrier (which is not a/v in the TC 1.x versions). It fits my son very securely and so comfortably he is always happy to be straped inside it. When I expect my son would get tired in long walks I would put him in a lower seat level so when he falls asleep his head won't be left with much dangling.

I have no regrets getting his 2008 model although the new 2010 TC3.0 model is out already. The new 2010 model with its foot piece may help in loading the child when an extra hand is needed for a small child without much control of his legs. But my son (and me) now gets so much used to the bag they seldom get caught. The big plus with this 2008 model is the satellite pack, with an extra 300 cubic inches of volume to its 2010 counterpart. This space really make the difference when you're expecting a lunch outdoors. What's more, the satellite pack serves as the child's own pack so whenever he wishes to walk by himself, I'd make him share the responsibility of carrying his own diaper load. No wonder this $30 cheaper 2008 model is going fast!

Cons:

My only negative comment is the cord holding the child mirror can get caught quite easily. I had the mirror slipped out a few times in the first week of use and eventually I broke my mirror while hurrying to get my child down for a diaper change. So I'll recommend tie a superdouper secure knot to prevent it from slipping free, or better still, use a elastic sling instead of the provided cord so the mirror doesn't easily get caught while mounting your child up and down.

"Great backpack, little one loves it!" 2009-09-24
By A. Duran (California)
I get questions and smiles everywhere I go with this backpack - it is a real attention getter. We've taken it hiking, to the beach and on short walks. Our 11 month old loves it when he gets in. I'm a little concerned that he gets hot with the thick material padding all around him, but he doesn't seem to overheat.

The cons I can see so far:

1. Sunshade only encourages our baby to crane his neck to the side in order to see what's going on up front. Therefore, very little use to keep him out of the sun, arms tend to go out to the sides as well. A hat or some sort of clamp-on umbrella (will be looking for one soon) would be better.

2. Diaper bag is a little too small to be useful for more than 1 diaper and a small bottle, couple snacks. Not large enough for a full day of activity.

3. Inside bag is large but not enough pockets/compartments to keep extra bottles, etc organized...it's just a big empty space.

4. When child falls asleep there is nowhere for him to rest his head. It's great that it is comfortable enough to sleep in, but the kid's head just goes limp to the side and looks terrible for their neck...if any suggestions for keeping their head propped up, please let me know.

In spite of these cons, I give it four stars for being something that frees up my hands, enables us to go on hikes with our baby and is comfortable enough for him to fall asleep in if he gets tired.

 "Would buy it again." 2009-03-03
By Twins Mom (TX)
I would definitely buy this again. The kids love love love being carried around. We have used it to transport them through the airport, onto the plane. We've travelled Europe with it and people are always asking where we got it. It's great for when their little legs get tired if you're standing in line and they can just jump up into it. The removable section has been awesome for a mini diaper bag/snacks/camera. When not in used it condenses down into a normal backpack look.

 "Love this carrier" 2009-01-20
By R. Whitaker (Utah)
When we first got this carrier my baby girl weighed 20 pounds. She is now 30 pounds, and still fits great, though it does get a bit heavy after a few miles!

But that's the good news-- after a few miles it's still just as comfortable as the first mile. Very well designed.

The reason I did not rate it a "5" is for two reasons: The sun shade is plain awkward to use, as you can either have it on or off-- there's no way to just let it hang there, ready to put up. A better design would involve some way to fold it back.

The second reason is the cargo space just isn't adequate for anything but a day hike. We went backpacking, just an overnighter, and had trouble fitting everything we needed in this pack and one other full-sized pack.

The reason I rated it a "4" instead of a "3" is because my daughter loves to sit in it! As soon as she sees it she insists on a ride, if only just around the house. I've mowed the lawn several times with my daughter on my back and it works great. She has even fallen asleep in it, it is so comfy.

 "Worth every penny" 2010-03-31
By seal (Centreville, VA United States)
Before this, the most I'd ever spent on a baby carrier was $40 (and even then, I only justified it to myself by saying I could use it for more than one child, and then sell it on Craigslist later), so I cringed at parting with so much money, but I needed something that would carry my child comfortably, hold everything in my diaper bag, and not be a stroller. This backpack carrier is perfect. I'm short, so it fits me perfectly (unlike the external frame backpack carrier we also own), it's comfortable (I carried my 21 lb. baby plus supplies for 6 hours one day, and I'm no hiker, folks), and we can go places strollers aren't allowed or can't easily navigate. My baby can look around or go to sleep. It can be a bit tricky to get on, especially in a car when you're trying to avoid opening the door in the cold, but the more you use it, the easier it gets. It's easily the most comfortable child carrier I own, at least for me. If you're tall (I'd say 5' 7" or more), this may not be the product for you, since the belt would probably ride too high and not be very comfortable. Hope this helped!

 "Very good quality" 2010-01-21
By Max (Minneapolis, MN)
Very carefully designed and ideal for short trips. I was not sure about this product when I bought this and I have been very satisfied with this. There is a lot of space for small things like wallet, bottles, socks and stuff. [The compartments are on the other side though] The view that baby gets is amazing and the support is very good.

When your partner takes over the baby, the carrier does not feel bulky. I wish there was more space for the baby though and the carrier be more flexible to accommodate big babies too.

Not for long trips, unless you take turns, else you ll end up with sore shoulders.

As the baby grows in length, I have been skeptical in using this carrier and you cannot afford to take risks. This models is more ideal for babies over 2 years [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LDJG1O?ie=UTF8&tag=mama0f-20&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001LDJG1O]

Also need more width in the torso for easy use for ones with a big belly.

PRO:

CON:

- no support for baby's head when he's asleep

- shoulder straps start hurting after more than 1 hour or so

 "What a fantastic carrier!" 2009-03-09
By Heather (Tustin, CA United States)
I bought this on a whim, but what a great product! My daughter is 17 months (20 lbs) and loves to ride in it. It's pretty comfortable, but if you're not used to lugging that much extra weight around you'll get kinds sore in the shoulders. The back pack part is very roomy, enough to hold baby gear and adult stuff too.

My only suggestions for future models would be to pad the chest strap and add a "fanny pack" type pouch to the front or side of the belt area for quick accsess items like a wallet or keys. It's a kind of a pain to take the whole thing off to get in the back.
