There is no doubt this is a quality tool.
It feels solid, great texture, great build, I really like it.
While looking at this knife, I was also looking at the Bantam and purchased it as well.
And I must say that if I were just going to grab a blade for the road, it'd be the Bantam.
The Soldier is a solid tool that I would keep in my drawer, toolbox, glove compartment, first aid and survival kit, or camping.
Ha, clearly a useful knife ;)
But the Bantam is just so slim and low-profile ... if all you need is a blade and bottle opener (which you can use for wedging and whatnot), well, the Bantam is an every-day-carry kind of friend... it's slimness makes it feel like the preferred "fast grab" for me if I think I'll need a blade ;)
Of course, this is a Soldier review ... don't get me wrong, the Soldier is not a huge bulk by any stretch, it's just a solid serious instrument and I can see myself reserving its use for when I really need it (or if it happens to be nearer than the Bantam).
Now I say all this with the Bantam sitting in front of me and my Soldier back at home... truth be told, I wouldn't want to have one without the other -- they are a perfect combination to have in your arsenal... but I can see having 2 or 3 Bantams for every one Soldier... call me crazy ;)
Both feel "right" in the hand... great material.
Love 'em!

I like to carry a knife with me and usually have them as a key chain. I kept having to buy a new knife every few months because the sides kept coming off. Several knives later I found this one and realized that the body is built in one piece so I figured this would solve my problems. I've had this thing for almost two years and it is still in great condition. It's a bit bulky as a key chain but not too bad considering you are carrying a decent size blade.
I don't foresee buying another pocket knike anytime soon because mine is still in great shape, but when the day comes I will buy this one again

I have carried a Soldier everyday for the last 21 years. I replaced the first one after 20 years only because of my careless sharpening, otherwise it is as good as new.

I needed a small birthday gift for an Army veteran and the recipient was
quite pleased with it.
This is the best Swiss Army knife ever made. It is reported to be the sturdiest of all the knives, and has only the necessary tools. Perfect for daily use and as a gift to friends and family. It is reported to be the official army knife of Swiss soldiers and well proven.
I understand this model is in final production and there is a Limited Edition final production model which is somewhat more expensive. Amazon.com didn't have it but I did see it on other sites which I was unsure of the safety, etc.

I bought this knife after learning it is being discontinued by the manufacturer and will no longer be the Swiss Army official issue pocketknife. I read the previous reviews; and I was convinced. I have owned several of the plastic handled officer's versions; I am more impressed by the heftier tools and blade of the soldier, the much more durable handles, and the fact that this is/was the issue knife! I have now bought a few of these, to insure I don't run out of this fine knife.
